The Frederick Quinney Lawson Ballet West Academy is the official school of Ballet West and a leading destination for classical ballet and performing arts education in Utah. The academy provides professional and recreational dance training in a structured, supportive environment that encourages students to grow as both skilled dancers and healthy individuals. Its curriculum emphasizes classical ballet while considering students’ physical, cognitive, and emotional development.
Ballet West Academy offers programs for dancers at different ages and experience levels. The Beginning and Elementary divisions introduce children ages 3 to 9 to dance through age-appropriate classes that emphasize ballet fundamentals, exploration, and a nurturing learning environment. The Student Division serves dancers ages 9 and older through Levels 1–8, with placement auditions for new students. Training includes a comprehensive curriculum intended to build technique and prepare students for further development in dance. Students also have opportunities to perform in the academy’s Winter, Spring, and Contemporary Showcases.
For serious ballet students ages 14 and older, the Professional Training Division provides advanced instruction designed to support dancers through their high school years. Admission is by audition or invitation, and eligible students may be considered for a trainee position. The academy also offers summer intensives and accelerated training opportunities featuring faculty members, guest artists, choreographers, and ballet professionals.
Beyond youth and pre-professional programs, Ballet West Academy provides adult ballet and tap classes for participants ages 13 and older, with beginner, intermediate, and advanced options. Specialty offerings vary by campus and may include contemporary dance, jazz, hip-hop, and musical theatre.
With campuses in Salt Lake City, Park City, and Utah County, Ballet West Academy extends dance education to students across the region. Its connection to Ballet West and its experienced faculty provide opportunities for students to develop technique, explore performance, and deepen their appreciation for dance.
