Utah Autism Academy (UAA) is a nonprofit organization in Orem, Utah, providing individualized therapeutic and educational services for individuals with autism and their families. Its programs are designed to support skill development across multiple environments, including the center, home, and community, helping individuals apply what they learn to everyday situations.
UAA develops individualized treatment plans through collaboration among professionals, staff, parents, and caregivers. Services incorporate approaches such as Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Verbal Behavior, Discrete Trial Training, and other methods selected according to each individual’s needs and goals. One-to-one and small-group instruction can address communication, social skills, learning, daily living, self-help, hygiene, and other functional abilities.
An important part of UAA’s model is generalization—the process of helping individuals use newly developed skills in different settings. Staff may work with clients at the center, in their homes, and in community environments, where programs can target social interaction, community participation, vocational skills, and independence. Parent collaboration and training are also incorporated to help reinforce learning outside of therapy sessions.
UAA has expanded its services through the Utah Autism Community Center, which provides opportunities for clinical treatment, social activities, independent-living instruction, health and wellness education, communication development, executive-functioning skills, and pre-vocational and vocational training. The center is also designed to provide practice accessing everyday community services and activities.
Overall, Utah Autism Academy takes a comprehensive approach to autism support, combining individualized therapy, family involvement, community-based learning, and practical life-skills development to help individuals build greater independence and participate more fully in their homes, communities, and daily lives.
